Why Did Google rent Geisinger CEO Dr. David Feinberg? | killexams.com actual Questions and Pass4sure dumps

On Thursday, Geisinger fitness introduced its CEO Dr. David Feinberg turned into leaving to fill a newly created management role at Google, a bound sign the tech huge wants to cash in on the $three.5 trillion healthcare industry.

Google isn't the only one. 5 the area’s 10 greatest organizations accommodate introduced fundamental fitness initiatives over the ultimate 12 months, including: Amazon, Apple, Berkshire-Hathaway, JPMorgan Chase and, now, Alphabet, Inc. (Google).

Sources near to the Google announcement talked about Feinberg will file to AI head Jeff Dean, who we’re informed led a months-long quest the perquisite candidate. in line with CNBC’s Christina Farr, who first reported on the particulars of the transition, “Feinberg’s job may be determining the way to disarrange Google’s fragmented health initiatives, which overlap among numerous enterprise.”

Google Isn’t novel To The Healthcare game

Google’s interest in consumer health dates back greater than a decade. In 2008, it launched Google health, an try to create a repository of fitness statistics, connecting a must accommodate patient suggestions with healthcare suppliers such as medical doctors, hospitals and pharmacies. The imaginative and prescient was forward of its time. The task shut down in 2011.

greater recently, the company doubled down on synthetic Intelligence (AI) via Verily, an entity concentrated on precision medication and ailment-research initiatives. And ultimate July, Google hired former Cleveland health facility CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove as executive adviser to its Cloud healthcare and being sciences division, areas of the enterprise that don’t emerge to overlap with Feinberg’s position.

As particulars of Feinberg’s novel position acquire sorted out, one question emerges from this excessive-profile appoint: the space could Google proceed within the healthcare area?

Turning An information trade into a Healthcare player

on the Stanford Graduate college of business, I train a healthcare approach type along with Dr. Robert Burgelman. a allotment of his analysis centers on “go-boundary disrupters”—agencies that dominate in one enviornment then transfer that competencies to a brand novel trade.

For Google, which fancies itself an “tips business,” I’m intrigued by the potential to marry its tips capabilities (and other billion-dollar Google initiatives) with a healthcare agenda.

because of the brilliance of its founders, Sergey Brin and Larry page, Google’s search talents far outpaces the leisure of the business, even two many years after the trade launched. and due to the company acumen of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, the enterprise has mastered income era through a coalesce of paid search, promoting and derived-user guidance.

The problem Google now faces is monetizing its ecocnomic search and enterprise proficiencies in the world of healthcare—a space overflowing with complicated rules, regulatory prohibitions, and faultfinding affected person accommodate faith issues.

The way forward for Healthcare: In Dr. Feinberg’s personal phrases

In his ultimate public interview earlier than leaving Geisinger for Google, Dr. Feinberg joined me on my month-to-month podcast Fixing Healthcare.

Promotional image for the Fixing Healthcare podcast interview with Dr. David FeinbergFixingHealthcarePodcast.com

though he on no account outlined he turned into applying for a novel job—nor did he muster out Google or any of its rivals through name—he spoke at size about know-how’s function in healthcare and the want for business-wide disruption.

Combining Dr. Feinberg’s feedback and skilled song record with what they know about Google’s existing initiatives and products, listed below are five healthcare opportunities Google could seize upon in the near future.

1. Boosting domestic fitness

in accordance with CNBC’s early reporting, “One inevitable belt of activity is pile out a health crew inside Nest to support exploit clients’ health at home, in addition to to monitor seniors who're picking to reside independently.” The Nest family unit of domestic-automation items—every puny thing from digital doorbells to thermostats to home security—are designed to vicinity Google squarely in the core of the American domestic, powering widely wide-spread lifestyles.

Dr. Feinberg, who served as CEO of UCLA’s hospitals earlier than joining Geisinger, has long been an suggest of bringing keeping out of the clinical facility and into the home. In their interview, he compared hospitals to Blockbuster – that mossy historic brick-and-mortal understanding from a century in the past. Feinberg predicts half of nowadays’s inpatient services will soon be rendered in americans’s homes, and with out the various dangers linked to a medical institution dwell (starting from an infection to delirium).

increasing on the theme, Feinberg wondered, “Why attain americans accommodate to foster to a physician now? I don’t proceed to the bookstore anymore. I don’t proceed to my proceed back and forth agent anymore. i will be able to achieve this a satisfactory deal through my cell. Why can’t I inform you what my signs are, and accommodate you hook me up with someone who can support? If I attain requisite medicine, why don’t you simply drone them to my apartment? these forms of interventions I suppose are coming and those disruptions are completely critical.”

For any patient who has been ailing satisfactory to be within the hospital, a set of Google healthcare items may be extremely helpful and, in comparison to the impregnate of hospital displays, a sever price.

2. solving healthcare concerns with transportation

under Brin’s route, Google became an early innovator of self-using vehicles. Others within the automotive and transportation industries accommodate considering taken the lead, however healthcare could be a fascinating avenue for the company to reengage in this area.

Dr. Feinberg mentioned that handiest “20% of no matter if they are living or die (is) based on going to respectable medical doctors and decent hospitals.” He told me a far better percentage of fitness is in response to “your social atmosphere, your entry to pellucid meals, your access to transportation...”

vehicles, it turns out, abate boundaries to superior health. They acquire people to docs. They carry doctors, drugs, nutritious foods and instruments to individuals’s homes. companies fancy Uber and Lyft accommodate taken steps in this course, however Google has the talents to disrupt these disrupters. today, the elements limiting home start are can impregnate and time. Driverless cars can overcome both.

three. the exercise of spacious records to combat disease

Google’s most frequent functions – from Maps to power to Gmail to Chrome – associate people with vital sources of tips. every software is advised through algorithmic facts and, more and more, computing device studying.

more and more, American healthcare suppliers are relying on big records to better patient health. patients, in the meantime, trust on the cyber web. these days, forty three% of buyers document that the internet is their go-to useful resource for fitness-connected tips (simplest 14% whisper doctors). If Google already knows so an Awful lot about every of us in keeping with the sites they browse and the items they purchase, why couldn’t it exercise that identical know-how to multiply keeping birth?

Precision medicine and predictive analytics are two of essentially the most touted alternatives in healthcare nowadays because they acquire individual fitness components into account. Dr. Feinberg gave a brilliant instance. He mentioned that technology enabled Geisinger to maintain tabs on each patient inside a three-million-person catchment enviornment.

“And they comprehend, according to how near they live to the forest, the odds of them getting Lyme disease,” he mentioned. “we can start pondering in develop what’s wrong with individuals, or what might turn into wrong with them, and stop it.”

The identical tactics might apply to asthma, depression, melanoma and coronary heart disorder. Google’s facts and recommendation functions could lead on the way.

4. Inventing the subsequent technology of wearables and trackers.

With Google fit, the enterprise is attempting to extend its market share within the very ecocnomic fitness and health-wearable market. thus far, the enterprise trails opponents fancy FitBit, everyday for people concentrated on recreation, and Apple, which is breaking into the wearable medical-equipment market. but Google could leapfrog each peers if it accommodate been inclined to outcome instruments designed for keeping provision, no longer simply monitoring.

Most of today’s at-domestic wearables generate reams of facts (coronary heart rhythms and blood sugar readings). docs don’t requisite everything that records clogging up their electronic health listing systems nor attain they wish sufferers speeding into the workplace each time a single quantity looks out of line. What medical doctors want is smarter know-how.

believe of it this way. A vehicle’s sensors yield lots of of gigabytes of facts each day. however producers don’t send everything those facts points to auto mechanics on a continuous foundation. as an alternative, manufacturers embed vehicles with algorithms that deem the motor vehicle's popularity and inform drivers (a) when every puny thing is fine and (b) when it’s time to head to the store.

If sufferers had refined equipment that did the identical (telling them when they’re ok and when they’re no longer), it might transform scientific care. It could better confirmed ailment administration from its current episodic approach to a greater helpful and continuous one.

doctors would requisite to notice sufferers much less commonly, realizing their issues had been beneath manage. And when whatever thing did proceed wrong, patients would be notified and recognize to muster their medical professional. In healthcare, corporations accommodate shied away from embedding such algorithms and warnings into their wearable devices for presentiment of a legal suit may still the product malfunction. but the potential here is huge.

As a former fitness device CEO, Dr. Feinberg has connections with medical consultants across the country who may generate these algorithms, support untangle the regulatory concerns and create such a product. And if these contraptions helped patients acquire timelier medication with fewer visits, coverage businesses should be would becould very well be inclined to pay for the technology, something they infrequently attain now with the wearables at present in the market.

5. becoming a global leader in AI

Google has made no underhand of its want to be a global chief in synthetic intelligence (AI). within the healthcare area, the trade has already made colossal strides toward growing application that can diagnose radiological photographs and skin lesions, commonly with plenty more accuracy than people.

Google has dozens of partnerships in the works to expand the exercise of AI in hospitals and diagnostic facilities. As a corporation that already is awake of more about us than any other, Google in the best position to understand more about their clinical keeping and tips than another company available. ersatz intelligence and computer getting to know will disrupt healthcare as they comprehend it, putting off an estimated 30% of keeping start that, nowadays, has been confirmed so as to add no cost.

The problem in bringing AI to healthcare is threefold. First, incredibly few sufferers accommodate everything their clinical tips saved in a single, complete EHR gadget. second, most EHRs are structured for billing and administration, now not for healthcare beginning, which is why EHR statistics is infrequently efficacious in correlating scientific effects. Third, even agencies that preserve this type of records are reluctant to share it with an organization fancy Google. but once once again, Dr. Feinberg might facilitate the technique.

Google Faces Strategic Challenges

The words “Google” and “fight” rarely proceed collectively within the identical sentence. but backyard of the business’s marvelous success in search, and a handful of ecocnomic acquisitions, Google has struggled to monetize some of its initiatives and items.

Google’s opponents, in the meantime, accommodate organize an instantaneous hyperlink between cross-boundary disruption and healthcare success. acquire Amazon, whose core competency is retail and revenue. Having currently got PillPack (and its 50 state licenses), Amazon might too quickly deliver drugs to individuals’s home, hence making it an immense participant in the pharmaceutical space. Or analyze Berkshire-Hathaway, which already owns Geico and will add a complementary medical insurance product to its portfolio sooner or later.

but Google faces obstacles its rivals don’t, peculiarly when it comes to monetizing its aggressive talents: advice.

medical guidance is ambiguous and tricky to navigate. Mining it for solutions proves greater elusive than in different industries. if in case you accommodate any doubts, just query the Watson health division at IBM, which had to lay off people this summer time and has struggled to deliver a “killer app” to market. Having powerful expertise is one factor. Translating it into operational success is another entirely.

but Google has an excellent larger issue than IBM. that's, consumers view their medical information a little differently than their shopping or searching background. Most americans don’t wit seeing an advert for armchairs in the margins of a webpage after Googling “armchairs.”  They notice it as an inexpensive exchange off for a brilliant search experience.

but patients wouldn’t acquire as kindly to having their clinical information sold in the equal manner. Already too many businesses prey on the fears, failing fitness or clinical lack of information of everyday sufferers. promoting and targeted-advertising techniques just suppose different in medication than in retail.

in the past, Google’s motto became “don’t be evil.” Convincing sufferers they don't accommodate anything to concern by handing over their fitness suggestions on-line, or permitting Google to attain it from their domestic, will be a tremendous hurdle.  in the conclusion, this could be the largest accountability Dr. Feinberg, a trusted and respected leader, may be asked to assume.

50+ Examples of How Blockchains are Taking Over the World | killexams.com actual questions and Pass4sure dumps

When talking about blockchains, they commonly umpire of its applications in the future. “Blockchain will solve this, blockchain will achieve that”. It’s easy to forget that blockchains are already deployed in the wild.

Pick an industry, from automobiles to ersatz intelligence, and odds are you’ll find examples of blockchains in action. In everything quarters and everything circles, blockchains are making their mark. Even the US Treasury is in on the act, advocating for more pilot projects and test programs.

The ‘World Economic Forum’ anticipates that 10% of global GDP will be stored on the blockchain by 2025. That means the global executives out there are preparing for this seismic shift, and are ready to completely back its implementation. The impact of distributed ledger technology could be as magnificient as the internet revolution itself.

The exercise cases differ, but the benefits derived from using the technology remain unchanged: transparency, immutability, redundancy and security. In 2018, novel blockchain initiatives are launched every day. Here are 50 examples of blockchains in exercise around the globe.

Government

A number of governments accommodate expressed an interest in blockchain technology to store public records on a decentralized data management framework. Essentia is developing an e-government pilot with Finland’s Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners. Blockchain will enable urban and rural citizens throughout Finland to access records.Other exercise cases include government applications such as education, public records and voting.

Waste Management

Waltonchain’s RFID technology is being used by a Smart Waste Management System in China. Using Walton’s blockchain, the project will enable supervision of waste levels to better operational efficiencies and optimize resources.

Identification

Zug in Switzerland, known as “Crypto Valley” has developed a blockchain project in partnership with Uport to register residents’ IDs, enabling them to participate in online voting and prove their residency.

Border Control

Essentia has been meeting with the Dutch government to create a novel system for vetting passengers traveling between Amsterdam and London. At present, passengers on the Eurostar train between the two countries undergo brim control checks at multiple points. Essentia is studying a blockchain-based solution that would securely store passenger data, enabling the metrics recorded in the Netherlands to be audited by agencies in the UK. Blockchain would provide a means of ensuring that the data has not been tampered with and is verifiably accurate.

Healthcare

Medical records are notoriously scattered and erroneous, with uncongenial data handling processes signification hospitals and clinics are often forced to work with incorrect or incomplete patient records. Healthcare projects such as MedRec are using the blockchain as a means of facilitating data sharing while providing authentication and maintaining confidentiality.

Enterprise

Clients of Microsoft Azure Enterprise can access the Ethereum Blockchain as a Service. This provides businesses with access to smart contracts and blockchain applications in a secure hosted environment.

Google is too reported to be working on a proprietary blockchain to support its cloud-based business. Parent company Alphabet is developing a distributed ledger that third parties will be able to exercise to store data, believed to be in regards to Google’s cloud services for enterprises, with a white label version for companies too in the works.

Medical

Medical centers that accommodate digitized their patient records don’t divide their data across multiple facilities, instead keeping them on-site on centralized servers. These are a prime target for hackers, as evidenced by the ransomware attacks that struck NHS hospitals in the UK. Even if security risks are overlooked, there is still the problem of fragmentation. There are currently more than 50 different electronic healthcare record (eHR) software systems that operate in different hospitals, often with dozens of different packages within the same city. These centralized systems attain not interoperate with one other and patient data ends up scattered between disparate centers.

In life-and-death settings, the lack of reliable data and sluggish interfaces may prove devastating. The Essentia framework addresses everything these issues by using a blockchain-powered system that will store clinically pertinent patient data and which can be immediately accessed, regardless of geographical borders. Patient privacy is maintained on a secure decentralized network where access is granted to only those who are medically authorized and only for the duration needed.

Music

One of the main benefits of blockchain technology is the way it removes intermediaries or middlemen. The music trade is a prime case of an industry whose inefficiencies accommodate seen artists poorly remunerated for their efforts. A number of blockchain-based projects accommodate sprung up seeking a fairer deal for music creators, including Artbit, overseen by former Guns N Roses drummer Matt Sorum.

Carbon Offsets

As a heavily industrialised nation, China’s environmental footprint is substantial. In March 2017, IBM launched the Hyperledger Fabric blockchain in conjunction with Energy-Blockchain Labs, as a means of tracking carbon assets in China. This creates a measurable and auditable system for tracking emissions, and facilitates a tradable market for companies seeking to offset their energy consumption whilst incentivizing greener industrial practises.

Supply Chains

Supply chain management is seen as one of the most advantageous exercise cases for blockchain, as it’s ideal for industries where goods are passed through various pairs of hands, from dawn to end, or manufacturer to the store . IBM and Walmart accommodate teamed up to launch Blockchain Food Safety Alliance in China. The project, dash in conjunction with Fortune 500 company JD.com, is designed to better food tracking and safety, making it easier to verify that food is safe to consume.

China is proving to be a ripe test bed for blockchain projects, for it’s too home to the world’s first agricultural commodity blockchain. Louis Dreyfus Co, a major food trader, has set up a project with Dutch and French banks which are used for selling soybeans to China, with transactions settled quicker than traditional methods thanks to the exercise of blockchain technology.

Diamonds

The De Beers Group, the world’s most famous diamond company, now has its own blockchain up and running, designed to establish a “digital record for every diamond registered on the platform”. Given concerns about the source of diamonds, and the ethics concerning their country of origin, coupled with the risk of stones swapped for less value ones along the line, blockchain is a natural fit. Because each record is indelible, it will ensure that data for each stone lasts as long as the diamonds themselves.

Real Estate

Ukraine holds the honor of becoming the first nation to exercise blockchain to facilitate a property deal. A property in Kiev was sold by prominent cryptocurrency advocate and TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington. The deal was enabled with the aid of smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain, and is intended to be the first of many completed by Propy, a startup specializing in blockchain-based actual estate deals.

Fishing Industry

Blockchain is now being used to support sustainable fishing. Illegally caught fish is an endemic problem within the industry, and distributed ledger technology provides a means of proving where fish were caught, processed and sold. This ‘net-to-plate’ chain allows inspectors to determine whether fish had foster from regions notorious for human rights abuses or from countries that are affected by economic sanctions.

Fine Art

Similar to the diamond trade, the craft industry is dependant on the provenance and authenticity of artworks. While blockchain cannot authenticate a painting to determine whether it is an original or forgery, it can be used to prove the piece’s previous owners. In addition, blockchain is now used as a means of acquiring art. It’s another case of how blockchain technology can be used to outcome tangible objects easily tradable and exchangeable from anywhere in the world, without the requisite to physically transfer them from secure storage.

Public Utilities

In the Australian city of Fremantle, an ambitious project focused on distributed energy and water systems is using blockchain technology. Solar panels are being used in the sun-blessed region to capture electricity, which is then used to heat water and provide power, and the data recorded on the blockchain.

Chile’s National Energy Commission has begun using blockchain technology as a means of certifying data pertaining to the country’s energy usage. Sensitive data will be stored on a blockchain as allotment of an initiative to serve modernize and secure the South American nation’s electrical infrastructure.

LGBT Rights

Blockchain can be helpful in pile the “pink economy”, as well as helping the LGBT community to fight for their rights without revealing people’s identities. The latter is an extremely valuable issue since disapprove crimes are a recurring problem within the gay community, especially in countries notorious for human rights abuses and where homosexuality is outlawed or at least frowned upon.

Cat Bonds

Cat bonds can be the only hope for people who accommodate been victims of earthquakes, tsunamis and other natural disasters. Blockchain allows for quick and transparent settlements between parties, and creates assurance that the system will remain operational even without human operation. Blockchain has now successfully been used as a cat bond settlement mechanism.

Tourism

Blockchain is being researched as a means of improving Hawaii’s economy by giving tourists an break to pay for local goods and services with bitcoin and other currencies. This way the state’s government hopes to attract tourists, especially from Asia, to spend more money and eventually serve Hawaii to develop economically.

National Security

In 2016, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a project that would exercise blockchain as a means of securely storing and transmitting the data it captures. Using the Factom blockchain, data retrieved from security cameras and other sensors are encrypted and stored, using blockchain as a means of mitigating the risk of data breaches. The project is still ongoing.

Shipping

Blockchain’s suitability to recording shiping data is self-evident. A number of projects accommodate distributed ledger technology to work in this domain, using it within the maritime logistics industry to bring transparency to the unavoidable bureaucracy in international trade. Maersk, one of the largest global shippers, was the pioneer to outcome exercise of blockchain and now ZIM accommodate picked up the torch.

Taxation

As one of the world’s most technologically advanced countries, it’s no surprise China has become one of the first and most prominent adopters of blockchain and everything it offers. It has decided to exercise the technology to facilitate taxation and electronic invoice issuance in a project headed by Miaocai Network in conjunction with the State Administration of Taxation.

Mobile Payments

Cryptocurrencies with its underlying blockchain technology is being used to facilitate mobile payments in a wide purview of projects. One of the latest initiatives announced, scheduled to launch in the plunge of 2018, will involve a consortium of Japanese banks. They’ll be using Ripple’s technology to enable instant mobile payments.

Land Registry

Blockchain once again proves that it’s not just applicable in the crypto space and by small companies. The government of Georgia uses it to register land titles. They accommodate created a custom-designed blockchain system and integrated it into the digital records system of the National Agency of Public Registry (NAPR). Georgia is now taking odds of the transparency and fraud reduction offered by blockchain technology.

Computation

Amazon Web Services accommodate collaborated with Digital Currency Group (DCG) to better their database security with the serve of blockchain. They will provide a platform for DCG’s startups to work, as well as technical support for their projects.

Insurance

Blockchain in the insurance industry is often talked about, but many don’t know the technology has already been implemented. For instance, Insurer American International Group Inc, in partnership with International trade Machines Corp, has completed a pilot of a so-called “smart contract” multi-national policy for Standard Chartered Bank PLC and plans to manage complicated international coverage through blockchain.

Endangered Species Protection

A man is a wolf to another man, and an even bigger wolf to animals. ‘Care for the Uncared’ is an NGO that is working with leading developers to find a way to preserve and protect endangered species using blockchain technologies.

Advertising

New York Interactive Advertising Exchange in partnership with Nasdaq is using blockchain to create a marketplace where brands, publishers and agencies can buy ads. The process is simple, though as secure as it can potentially be, using an open protocol on the Ethereum blockchain.

Journalism

Permanence is now a chafed´ topic in the journalism trade. One wrong trek and years of difficult work and research could proceed down the drain. Blockchain is one smart solution to the problem. Civil, a decentralized journalism marketplace, apart from obvious blockchain benefits, offers an economic incentive model for character advice content, coupled with the competence to permanently archive content, which will remain accessible at any time in perpetuity.

Smart Cities

Smart cities are not the stuff of science-fiction anymore. Taipei is attempting to position itself as a city of the future with the serve of Distributed Ledger Technology. It has announced a partnership with IOTA and they are already working on creating cards with light, temperature, humidity and pollution detection.

Oil Industry

One of the leading players in the commodity market, S&P Global Platts, is trialling a blockchain solution that’s being used to record oil storage data. Weekly inventories will be stored on the blockchain, reducing the requisite for manual data management and minimizing the random of human error.

Railways

In Russia, rail operator Novotrans is using blockchain technology with a goal to better the speed of its operations. The company, which is one of the largest rolling stock operators in the country, will be using blockchain to record data pertaining to repair requests, inventory and other matters pertaining to their operations. The understanding is that blockchain records will be more resistant to tampering and data corruption..

Gaming

One of the most influential companies in the gaming industry, Ubisoft, is researching on how to implement blockchain into its video games. Specifically, it’s focusing on the ownership and transfer of in-game items such as rewards and digital collectibles. These accommodate already been successfully demonstrated in action using the Ethereum blockchain.

Car Leasing

Blockchain’s distributed ledger technology is ideally suited to registering records of any kindly in a secure and unalterable manner. One such exercise case being developed by Essentia is the vehicle rental industry. Major rental companies will be able to utilize Essentia’s blockchain protocol to store customer data, fully encrypted and shareable on a permissioned basis with pertinent parties.

Energy Distribution

One of the biggest challenges facing the energy industry, companies in the wont of trading surplus supply requisite infallible record keeping. Tracking energy allocations in actual time, and ensuring efficient distribution through the supply chain requires multiple data points, and too mandates near cooperation between everything entities. Essentia is developing a test project with a number of major energy suppliers that will serve them track the distribution of resources in actual time, whilst maintaining data confidentiality at everything times.

Every day, the number of blockchains used in actual world scenarios grows. From logistics to fine art, it’s difficult to find a sector that hasn’t been touched by this transformative technology. They accommodate reached a point where the technology has proven itself to be superior than the current modus operandi.

The ‘WEF’ predicts that by 2025 the world will notice mainstream blockchain adoption. But after examining the exercise cases already in the implementation stages they accommodate to ask, they accommodate to ask, will it really acquire that long?

There’s only one small kink in the chain holding everything back. That kink is known as interoperability.

Think of a river that has peacefully flowed along for the past 15 years, then everything of a sudden a storm appears and it rains for weeks on end, turning the river into a raging torrent, sweeping away everything in its path. That river is the Web 2.0 and the storm of blockchains accommodate already changed the internet landscape. So what remains? When the rain stops and the floods subside, with the passe foliage swept away, a vast swathe of fruitful land awaits to be farmed.

The river, which facilitated the flood and interoperation within the natural ecosystem is gone. And the same goes for the Web 3.0, they can notice growth in various sectors but they are still largely incompatible with each other. But ‘hey presto’ there’s already a solution in the works for that.

It’s called Essentia, and it’s fancy a farmers tool for pile novel decentralized ecosystems on this fruitful land. It’s job is to create connections and facilitate interoperations to create a cohesive blockchain environment. This could import health-care blockchains are compatible with insurance chains, or international rail working with with cross-border customs chains.

Essentia is the vehicle that the digital world needs in order speed up the blockchain adoption process. Some suggest that they could notice it happen 50% sooner than originally estimated, that means by around the year 2020 the internet ecosystem could proceed regain its interoperability, while decentralized blockchains fill in the void of privacy, security and data ownership.

10 Facts About Lithium | killexams.com actual questions and Pass4sure dumps

Lithium is one of the smallest, simplest, and oldest elements, but it has been tapped to unlock some big, messy problems. It's a key ingredient in the batteries that power smartphones, laptops, and electric cars. But it's too proven to be one of the most efficacious treatments for bipolar disorder, and recent research may outcome lithium the key to unlocking the causes of that illness.

1. THE MAN WHO DISCOVERED LITHIUM GAVE UP SCIENCE SOON AFTER. crimson flames

In 1800, Brazilian naturalist José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva discovered petalite, a rare gem-quality mineral organize in granite, on the island of Utö, Sweden. He organize that the rock had a disorderly quality: When thrown into a fire, it created fierce crimson flames. In 1817, a 25-year-old Swedish aristocrat-turned-chemist named Johan August Arfvedson discovered lithium while analyzing petalite. Arfvedson identified the culprit for the red flames by process of elimination: Having recognized most of the mineral's content as silica and aluminum, he deduced a novel alkali metal made up the remaining share. It was Arfvedson's only recorded discovery; he soon retired from chemistry to manage his inherited fortune.

Lithium was later isolated in its elemental metal form using electricity. That process, electrolysis, is still used in lithium production.

2. LITHIUM IS BORN IN STELLAR EXPLOSIONS—WHICH THEY ONLY erudite IN 2013.

Hydrogen, helium, and lithium, the first three elements in the sporadic table, were everything created in the spacious Bang, but the first two elements are abundant, and lithium is not. Astrophysicists had a theory that novae, or stellar explosions, were amenable for lithium's scant distribution in the universe, but they didn't accommodate data for how that worked until Nova Centauri's December 2013 explosion—visible to the naked eye, if your eyes were in the southern hemisphere. Researchers witnessed the dying star ejecting lithium into space.

3. ITS SOURCES ARE LIMITED.

More than half of the world's lithium supply comes from high-altitude lakes and knowing white salt flats in the "lithium triangle" in Bolivia, Chile (as seen above), and Argentina, where it's mined in a grid of brine pools. In other regions, it comes from open-pit mines spiraling into layers of earth. Deposits accommodate too been organize in Australia, in the Tibetan portion of China, and in the U.S. in North Carolina and Nevada. Between 2015 and 2016, the charge per ton of the commodity more than tripled, leading the UK to search for domestic supplies. At the current pace, according to consulting company Stormcrow Capital, require for lithium could outpace production by 2023. To acquire around this looming shortage, some researchers are developing ways to recycle used lithium-ion batteries.

4. LITHIUM IS NEVER organize ALONE.

Lithium doesn't purview freely through nature, but instead has to be isolated from other minerals. Often, it's sourced from petalite (above). It's organize in traces in almost everything igneous rocks and in many mineral springs. Those who swim in lithium-infused chafed´ springs are often told that it has curative powers, including improved brain function and elevated mood—though there's no evidence of this.

5. IT POWERS MANY OF YOUR DEVICES.

Lithium has several advantages that outcome it the go-to for powering everything from smartphones to hybrid cars. It's the lightest known metal, which means it can store power without adding a lot of weight to devices. Lithium-ion batteries too accommodate some of the highest energy densities of any current battery technology; they deliver three times the voltage of nickel-based batteries, according to the University of Washington's cleanly Energy Institute.

But those aren't lithium's only advantages. Many nickel-based batteries experience what's known as the "memory effect"—if they're repeatedly plugged in to impregnate before they're fully dead, they'll lose power capacity (so instead of remembering its plenary capacity, the battery will only recall half, for example). But that's not the case with lithium-ion batteries, which are believed to accommodate no remembrance effect.

6. IT'S KEY TO IMPROVING ELECTRIC VEHICLES …

Current electric vehicle models require recharging after around 300 miles of driving. Given the limited number of re-charging stations available around the nation, that could outcome for tough logistics on cross-country road trips. So the Department of Energy is funding battery research to better that purview and has recruited five universities, three national laboratories, and IBM to the Battery500 Consortium to develop smaller, lighter, more efficient batteries that could, among other potential uses, multiply the purview of electric cars.

"If we're successful, we'll be able to double the purview of electronic vehicles today. This by itself is extremely challenging," says Jihui Yang, chair of the University of Washington's department of Materials Science and Engineering.

Yang and his collaborators flat to supplant the graphite currently used in the negative electrode of lithium-ion batteries with lithium metal. Doubling the exercise of lithium would significantly multiply the power output of those batteries. To attain so, though, they'll accommodate to solve a spacious problem: In the all-lithium batteries that currently exist, lithium grows needle-like dendrites that can puncture the separator—a thin layer of porous polymer separating the negative and positive sides of a battery—causing the battery to short.

7. … AND HAS SET PLANES AND PHONES ON FIRE. samsung galaxy 7 phone and recall notice

George Frey/Getty Images

Battery shorts can be more than just annoying—they can be incendiary. Some Boeing airplanes exercise lithium-ion batteries to power up their jet engines, and the quickly recharged batteries then serve as a backup power supply for electrical systems. But the Federal Aviation Administration grounded the entire Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet in 2013 after one plane's lithium-ion battery shorted out and started a fire—shortly after passengers had disembarked in Boston—and a battery malfunction warning went off in another plane.

Tesla Model S cars too saw fires in 2013 attributed to battery malfunctions. Then the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones started catching fire, prompting the FAA to ban the phones from flights. Samsung had tried to boost battery capacity to accommodate consumers' increasing game-playing and video-streaming habits while too shrinking the phone. Tasked with doing more in a smaller size, it became supine to meltdowns.

There's a intuition why the batteries are so combustible. Lithium ions pass through the tiny holes in the separator between the positive and negative electrodes of the battery, carried by a liquid electrolyte solution. But if the separator is damaged—like by dropping your phone—or the chemistry underway is changed by the heat of recharging or sitting in the sun, the equation changes. The outputs of those changed chemical reactions include flammable gases, and lithium itself can too ignite in humid air. The Federal Aviation Administration now requires spare rechargeable lithium batteries be transported in carry-on baggage. If a fire from a cell phone or laptop battery starts on board, the FAA has advised flight attendants to exercise water or soda to extinguish it, though a foam extinguisher or dry chemical fire extinguisher can too be used.

8. IT'S USED TO TREAT MENTAL ILLNESSES …

Lithium has been used for more than a century to treat bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses, including depression, schizophrenia, and eating disorders. It's too used to treat anemia, headaches, alcoholism, epilepsy, and diabetes. But there's a narrow dissimilarity between the dose at which it's efficacious and the one at which it is lethal.

"It's not that people don't know what lithium does in general, the problem is that it does too many things," says Evan Snyder, a professor in the human genetics program with Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, who studied the disorder as allotment of research on defects that involve more than one abnormal gene. He likens prescribing lithium to using a sledgehammer on a nail; there's a lot of collateral damage. "What we'd fancy is a very tiny, mini hammer just to precisely hit exactly what it is that lithium is doing," he tells Mental Floss.

But first, scientists needed to know which nail to swing for, and for that, Snyder studied lithium's affects in the brain. Research Snyder published in 2017 details how the drug works to regulate connections in the brain's nerve cells. Now, he says, that outcome can be compared with other drugs to search for a more targeted treatment; perquisite now, it works on only one out of every three patients.

9. … BUT THERE CAN be LONG-TERM SIDE EFFECTS.

At age 17, Jaime Lowe believed her parents were underhand agents, saw the Muppets heckling her, and thought she could converse with Michael Jackson and follow underhand tunnels to Neverland. She was soon diagnosed as bipolar, and daily doses of lithium stabilized the manic episodes; without it, as she wrote in a novel York Times essay about her life on the drug, she'd be "riding on top of subway cars measuring speed and looking for light in elevated realms." About one-third of people with bipolar disorder notice their symptoms relieved by lithium.

But that can foster at a price. Lithium's side effects include weight gain, nausea, and the exacerbation of heart and kidney disease. In Lowe's case, after 20 years of taking the drug, she began to accommodate spiking blood pressure and other signs of kidney failure. Her doctor gave her a option between switching off the drug that had given her a functional life—or getting a kidney transplant. She chronicles the experience—and her trip to Bolivia to hike the salt flats where lithium is mined—in her 2017 book Mental: Lithium, Love, and Losing My Mind.

10. LITHIUM WAS ONCE A KEY INGREDIENT IN 7 UP.

Before "7 Up" became its name and holiday party punchbowls everywhere became its prime target, the soft drink, which debuted in 1929, was briefly called "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda," and its original ingredients included lithium citrate. To outcome its product stand out in a sea of 600 lemon-lime soft drinks already on the market, Cadbury Beverages North America touted the supposedly positive health effects of the lithium in the soda, which was released just weeks before the 1929 stock market crash and the onset of the considerable Depression. Apparently the recipe had some appeal: In the 1940s: 7 Up was the third best-selling soft drink in the world, according to Cadbury. (Look how joyful the family above seems in this ad from the March 1948 issue of The Ladies' Home Journal.) Lithium was included in its recipe until 1950.

The portion of the Semantic Web | killexams.com actual questions and Pass4sure dumps

Overview

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, has worked along with many others in the internet community for more than a decade to achieve his next spacious dream: the semantic web. His vision is a web that allows software agents to carry out sophisticated tasks for users, making meaningful connections between bits of information so that “computers can execute more of the tedious work involved in finding, combining, and acting upon information on the web.”

Some 895 experts responded to the invitation of the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project and Elon University’s Imagining the Internet hub to predict the likely progress toward achieving the goals of the semantic web by the year 2020. Asked to umpire about the likelihood that Berners-Lee and his allies will realize their vision, often called Web 3.0, these technology experts and stakeholders were divided and often contentious.

Some 47% agreed with the statement:

  • “By 2020, the semantic web envisioned by Tim Berners-Lee will not be as fully efficacious as its creators hoped and average users will not accommodate noticed much of a difference.”
  • Some 41% agreed with the contrary statement, which posited:

  • “By 2020, the semantic web envisioned by Tim Berners-Lee and his allies will accommodate been achieved to a significant degree and accommodate clearly made a dissimilarity to average internet users.”
  • Experts generally agreed that progress will continue to be made in making the web more useful and information retrieval and assessment more meaningful. They recognized the fact that there are already elements and programs of the semantic web in space that are helping people more easily navigate their lives. While many survey participants famous that current and emerging technologies are being leveraged toward positive web evolution in regard to linking data, there was no consensus on the technical mechanisms and human actions that might lead to the next wave of improvements – nor how extensive the changes might be.

Many umpire Berners-Lee’s vision will acquire much longer to unfold than the 2020 timeline posited by the question. Critics famous that human uses of language are often illogical, playfully misleading, False or nefarious, thus human semantics can never be made comprehensible to machines. Some 12% of those who responded to the survey did not venture a guess about the future of the semantic web – itself a sign that there is still a satisfactory deal of uncertainty and confusion about the topic even among those who are quite connected to the tech world.

‘Tension pairs’ were designed to arouse minute elaborations

This material was gathered in the fourth “Future of the Internet” survey conducted by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project and Elon University’s Imagining the Internet Center. The surveys are conducted through online questionnaires to which a selected group of experts and the highly engaged internet public accommodate been invited to respond. The surveys present potential-future scenarios to which respondents react with their expectations based on current erudition and attitudes. You can view minute results from the 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010 surveys here: http://www.pewinternet.org/topics/Future-of-the-internet.aspx and http://www.elon.edu/e-web/predictions/expertsurveys/default.xhtml. Expanded results are published in the “Future of the Internet” series published by Cambria Press.

Respondents to the Future of the Internet IV survey, fielded from Dec. 2, 2009 to Jan. 11, 2010, were asked to deem the future of the internet-connected world between now and 2020 and the likely innovation that will occur. They were asked to assess 10 different “tension pairs” – each pair offering two different 2020 scenarios with the same overall theme and contrary outcomes – and they were asked to select the one most likely option of two statements. The tension pairs and their alternative outcomes were constructed to reflect previous statements about the likely evolution of the internet. They were reviewed and edited by the Pew Internet Advisory Board. Results are being released in four venues over the course of 2010.

The results that are reported here are responses to a tension pair that relates to the future impact of the internet on institutions and organizations. Results to five other tension pairs – relating to the internet and the evolution of intelligence; reading and the rendering of knowledge; identity and authentication; gadgets and applications; and the core values of the internet – were released earlier in 2010 at the meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. They can be read at: http://www.pewinternet.org/Reports/2010/Future-of-the-Internet-IV.aspx. Additional results from the tension pair involving the impact of the internet on institutions were discussed at the Capital Cabal in Washington, DC, on March 31, 2010 and can be read at:  http://www.pewinternet.org/Reports/2010/Impact-of-the-Internet-on-Institutions-in-the-Future.aspx.

Still other results will be released at the 2010 World Future Society conference (http://www.wfs.org/meetings.htm).

Please note that this survey is primarily aimed at eliciting focused observations on the likely impact and influence of the internet – not on the respondents’ choices from the pairs of predictive statements. Many times when respondents “voted” for one scenario over another, they responded in their elaboration that both outcomes are likely to a degree or that an outcome not offered would be their actual choice. Survey participants were informed that “it is likely you will struggle with most or everything of the choices and some may be impossible to decide; they hope that will inspire you to write responses that will warrant your respond and illuminate valuable issues.”

Experts were located in two ways. First, several thousand were identified in an extensive canvassing of scholarly, government, and trade documents from the period 1990-1995 to notice who had ventured predictions about the future impact of the internet. Several hundred of them participated in the first three surveys conducted by Pew Internet and Elon University, and they were recontacted for this survey. Second, expert participants were hand-picked due to their positions as stakeholders in the evolution of the internet.

Here are some of the respondents: Clay Shirky, Esther Dyson, Doc Searls, Nicholas Carr, Susan Crawford, David Clark, Jamais Cascio, Peter Norvig, Craig Newmark, Hal Varian, Howard Rheingold, Andreas Kluth, Jeff Jarvis, Andy Oram, Kevin Werbach, David Sifry, Dan Gillmor, Marc Rotenberg, Stowe Boyd,  Andrew Nachison, Anthony Townsend, Ethan Zuckerman, Tom Wolzien, Stephen Downes, Rebecca MacKinnon, Jim Warren, Sandra Brahman, Barry Wellman, Seth Finkelstein, Jerry Berman, Tiffany Shlain, and Stewart Baker.

The respondents’ remarks reflect their personal positions on the issues and are not the positions of their employers, however their leadership roles in key organizations serve identify them as experts. Following is a representative list of some of the institutions at which respondents work or accommodate affiliations: Google, Microsoft. Cisco Systems, Yahoo!, Intel, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Ericsson Research, Nokia, novel York Times, O’Reilly Media, Thomson Reuters, Wired magazine, The Economist magazine, NBC, RAND Corporation, Verizon Communications, Linden Lab, Institute for the Future, British Telecom, Qwest Communications, Raytheon, Adobe, Meetup, Craigslist, Ask.com, Intuit, MITRE Corporation

Department of Defense, Department of State, Federal Communications Commission, Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Social Security Administration, universal Services Administration, British OfCom, World Wide Web Consortium, National Geographic Society, Benton Foundation, Linux Foundation, Association of Internet Researchers, Internet2, Internet Society, Institute for the Future, Santa Fe Institute, Yankee Group

Harvard University, MIT, Yale University, Georgetown University, Oxford Internet Institute,  Princeton University, Carnegie-Mellon University, University of Pennsylvania, University of California-Berkeley, Columbia University, University of Southern California, Cornell University, University of North Carolina, Purdue University, Duke University , Syracuse University, novel York University, Northwestern University, Ohio University ,Georgia Institute of Technology, Florida State University, University of Kentucky, University of Texas, University of Maryland, University  of Kansas, University of Illinois, Boston College, University of Tulsa, University of Minnesota, Arizona State, Michigan State University, University of California-Irvine, George Mason University, University of Utah, Ball State University, Baylor University, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, University of Georgia, Williams College, and University of Florida.

While many respondents are at the pinnacle of internet leadership, some of the survey respondents are “working in the trenches” of pile the web. Most of the people in this latter segment of responders came to the survey by invitation because they are on the email list of the Pew Internet & American Life Project or are otherwise known to the Project. They are not necessarily sentiment leaders for their industries or well-known futurists, but it is striking how much their views were distributed in ways that paralleled those who are celebrated in the technology field.

While a wide purview of sentiment from experts, organizations, and interested institutions was sought, this survey should not be taken as a representative canvassing of internet experts. By design, this survey was an “opt in,” self-selecting effort. That process does not yield a random, representative sample. The quantitative results are based on a non-random online sample of 895 internet experts and other internet users, recruited by email invitation, Twitter, or Facebook. Since the data are based on a non-random sample, a margin of oversight cannot be computed, and results are not projectable to any population other than the respondents in this sample.

Many of the respondents are internet veterans – 50% accommodate been using the internet since 1992 or earlier, with 11% actively involved online since 1982 or earlier. When asked for their primary belt of internet interest, 15% of the survey participants identified themselves as research scientists; 14% as trade leaders or entrepreneurs; 12% as consultants or futurists, 12% as authors, editors or journalists; 9% as technology developers or administrators; 7% as advocates or activist users; 3% as pioneers or originators; 2% as legislators, politicians or lawyers; and 25% specified their primary belt of interest as “other.”

The answers these respondents gave to the questions are given in two columns. The first column covers the answers of 371 longtime experts who accommodate regularly participated in these surveys. The second column covers the answers of everything the respondents, including the 524 who were recruited by other experts or by their association with the Pew Internet Project. Interestingly, there is not considerable variance between the smaller and bigger pools of respondents.
