GlassFish 5.1 unlock Marks fundamental Milestone for Java EE transfer | killexams.com actual Questions and Pass4sure dumps

Eclipse GlassFish 5.1 has been released, and in contrast to the modest raise in version number might indicate, this truly marks a massive milestone — no longer only for the GlassFish project itself, but for Java EE and pitiful Jakarta EE ahead even more.

a glance on the inheritance of GlassFish

GlassFish goes back an extended method. It bar not any started with the Kiva enterprise Server, a Java software server that turned into launched in January 1996 (for evaluation, Java 1.0 itself turned into additionally released in that month!)

A year later, Netscape acquired Kiva, and the Kiva traffic Server grew to become called Netscape utility Server (NAS), which had its personal pre-J2EE proprietary Java internet APIs (such because the AppLogic framework, which was like Servlets and DAE for DB access). NAS 2.1, which became attainable from early 1998, become a very common version. software servers had been reasonably expensive lower back then, as Netscape application Server was around $35,000 per CPU.

In 1999, solar and Netscape (later AOL) fashioned an alliance, and Netscape utility Server four, which turned into released later that year, protected support for an early version of J2EE (Servlets, EJBs, JSPs, and JDBC). for instance, JSP cheer became for the early edition 0.92.

Netscape application Server 4 became chosen by the alliance to proceed construction on as an alternative of merging it with the NetDynamics 5.01 utility server sun had received past. The identify was once once again modified, this time into iPlanet application Server (iAS). It turned into a piece of the iPlanet suite of products jointly developed by sun and AOL (Netscape).

iAS edition 6, from around the year 2000, become a J2EE 1.2-compatible server, helping things such as Servlets 2.2, EJB 1.1, JSP 1.1 (in line with Jasper), and JTA 1.0 (in response to the Encina transaction video display).

For edition 7, the title changed into as soon as once again changed, now in replete to "Stanford university community Open web ambiance application Server," aka solar ONE software Server (S1AS, or SOAS).  S1AS 7 was made available for no can impregnate when it changed into launched in late 2002, although it changed into nonetheless closed source. It covered a modified Tomcat four, which has a protracted history as well. version 8 once once again noticed a title change, when it grew to become sun Java device software Server (SJSAS) eight, which was J2EE 1.4 suitable. around this time duration, solar had additionally slash up off a derived version called the J2EE SDK (Reference Implementation, or RI), which turned into very nearly the core of the whole application server, but afterward, this became the Platform edition of SJSAS and the absolute RI became only made available for TCK checking out.

Open-supply GlassFish mission

In 2005, the open-source GlassFish venture become began, which turned into virtually shaped by the donation of the source code for SJSAS 9 by using solar and the TopLink persistence supply code via Oracle (for the brand modern JPA implementation in EE 5). In may too 2006, the Java EE 5-compatible and absolutely open-supply GlassFish 1.0 changed into released. After some intermediate models, a huge re-architectured edition of GlassFish become released in December 2009, GlassFish three.0. in the GlassFish source code internally, there are nevertheless many references to "V3," which refers to this requisite milestone.

Payara Server Is Born

After Oracle obtained sun, it nevertheless released a edition 3.1 of GlassFish in early 2011 with creation points reminiscent of clustering and load balancing, but after that release, it got incredibly silent. In November 2013, Oracle announced they'd nevertheless cheer the open source GlassFish however ended industrial support. In actual open-supply trend, this led to the Payara Server, which bar not any started as a fork of GlassFish and delivered industrial guide, standard computer virus fixes, and usual component updates. GlassFish four was released to cheer Java EE 7, however from a server structure point of view, it changed into a relatively minor replace, with in general the add-ons being up to date to their EE 7 models.

GlassFish Is Transferred to the Eclipse basis

Late 2015/early 2016, it turns into quieter on the GlassFish entrance, and several articles seemed questioning Oracle's activity in Java EE, peculiarly GlassFish. In August 2017, Oracle indeed introduced that they didn't need to live primarily amenable for Java EE and GlassFish anymore. a limited later, Oracle introduced that Java EE and bar not any the GlassFish code (GlassFish itself and bar not any its constituent add-ons) can live transferred to the Eclipse groundwork. The identify of the assignment would become "EE4J," and in early 2018, the supply code starts transferring to the "eclipse-ee4j" repo on GitHub.

As piece of the deal between Oracle and Eclipse, it has decided to free up GlassFish 5.1, which is absolutely developed by using the Eclipse organization from the transferred and relicensed components it is completely Java EE eight licensed.

Payara functions Involvement

Altogether, this switch has taken lots of work. Payara services (the company in addition to individuals working for Payara) acquire supported this process from its early ranges. It protected cheer from the initial cleansing of several tasks for the vetting of the transfer. as an instance, in the Mojarra mission, there changed into reasonably sort of of historic code and other artifacts that had been eliminated one after the other, as they would acquire been difficult to vet. After the naked supply code switch, a number of changes had been vital to develop the projects cleanly construct and in a while to develop them work on the Eclipse Jenkins cases (https://jenkins.eclipse.org). For this to turn up, a great number of jobs needed to live created, for each task to build, stage, and eventually to free up them to Maven central. The piece tracker at https://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse_GlassFish_5.1_Components_Release_Tracker gives some concept of which projects were involved.

Payara above bar not any contributed to the transfer of here API tasks and their associated implementations:

Now, youngsters, this work is finally done! GlassFish is thoroughly developed on the Eclipse infrastructure, and ultra-modern unlock by way of Eclipse marks one other main step in GlassFish's lengthy experience, starting at Kiva, passing via NetScape, growing to live up at sun, passing through Oracle, and now landing at Eclipse.

Where is Java EE headed to? [UPDATE] | killexams.com actual questions and Pass4sure dumps

Discussions about Java EE‘s future persist. After JAXenter launched its interview series with Java EE Guardians, people started a conversation on Reddit, so they decided to hasten it here and invite everyone to participate.

Java Champion Lukas Eder

We asked Java Champion Lukas Eder to observation on the current state of Java EE, as well as on the surge of Java EE Guardians and MicroProfile.

JAXenter: Considering the current state of Java EE, effect you consider they need an initiative to protect its legacy?

Lukas Eder: That’s a very provocative open-ended question. And they can study at it from different angles (all subjective, of course). First off:

Do they need Java EE in the first place?

The Java EE “market” is big; a lot of companies (let’s convene them companies) want to build “standard” software and a lot of infrastructure software vendors (let’s convene them vendors) want to bag a piece of the cake by selling “standard” software platforms (and/or services related to the “standard” platforms) to these companies.

These companies want to acquire as limited cognitive friction as feasible when going from one project to the next, but it is a virulent thing to acquire too many choices in terms of technology. They pay the vendors to guarantee this need of friction. Many companies bag a free ride because many vendors present the platform software for free as Open Source.

There is no Java EE standard.

Java EE evangelists used to like to paint a standards-biased picture where the UI framework market (often their favorite example) was shared mostly between Java EE’s JSF and Spring’s MVC. Of course, as the saw goes: “The only statistics you can trust are those you falsified yourself”. If you study at “the market” from a different angle, there’s too Angular JS which dominates it, probably much more than JSF and MVC combined.

We’ve had Struts, before that JSP (still the best Java web UI tech if you interrogate me) and before Java EE (and before J2EE), there were other technologies, and surely, in the future, there will live other technologies. And that’s just talking about UI frameworks. So, you can note that even within the “standards” scope there are a lot of choices — which is not surprising, given XKCD 927.

So, in my opinion, there is no Java EE standard. Java EE is only a recommended set of libraries that are guaranteed by Java EE certification to work together.

Therefore, the respond to the question effect we need Java EE in the first Place is “Yes.” However, this is the case only if said certification is your highest priority as an API consumer. Spring is an alternative to the Java EE “standards” where innovation and modern features are added without too much of a formal process by a single vendor: Pivotal. They still add exactly the same value as Java EE to most customers, though. That value is: “It just works”. The incompatibility is the following: there’s no certification, but trust in the vendor after many years of excellent delivery. And, there’s no competition in the implementation process because many APIs are proprietary Open Source.

Spring is an alternative to the Java EE “standards”.

Of course, if you build decent integration tests yourself, there’s a third alternative to Java EE and Spring. You don’t need either. You can choose any capricious set of third party libraries as long as you trust each individual vendor to “do the perquisite thing” (which is often the case anyway, no matter if you’re using Java EE or Spring). For instance, if you’re using jOOQ (or Hibernate), you can spend that library in a “standalone application”, in a Spring application, or in a Java EE application just the same.

Now back to the actual question:

Do they need a group like the Java EE Guardians?

If Java EE was a truly open standard (like HTML, or SQL to some extent), they wouldn’t live in the situation that we’re in. Oracle would just live one more stakeholder in a great consortium and it would live their own election whether they withdraw from the consortium or not, without affecting the consortium as a whole.

Still, because of the way the JCP is organized, Oracle pretty much dictates what happens in the “standard”. For instance, the TCK for most aspects of Java EE are not open, freely available or even available without the need to accept very restrictive terms.

Should Oracle “secretly” want Java EE’s death, then that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Now, Oracle seems to acquire lost interest in Java EE (although they effect not know that for sure) and frankly they didn’t effect an excellent PR job explaining their strategy. There is a lot of uncertainty in the industry with respect to the future of Java EE. Given Oracle’s tight grip on the legal aspects of Java EE, there can live no fork or truly open standard without Oracle’s consent. So, should Oracle “secretly” want Java EE’s death, then that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

I personally don’t consider the Java EE Guardians can effect a lot in this case. It’s worth trying, sure. The Guardians bar not any acquire a expansive personal stake given the fact that their professional careers depend on Java EE. But as I explained above, there are non-certified alternatives like Spring, or random third party library collections that effect the job just the same, so, perhaps, the best way to Go forward is to create a modern “Spring” from scratch that is governed by a upright open standard consortium, free from any legal ties to Java EE, and with or without Oracle. Let’s convene it … “Summer” (Note that the community just published “MicroProfile”, which seems to live an initiative which does precisely that.)

JAXenter: How could Java EE live brought forward? Should Oracle live convinced that they will bag a better return from continuing to invest in Java EE? Should the focus remain on the community’s support?

Lukas Eder: There was an provocative discussion on Reddit’s /r/java just recently. /user/thesystemx, who frequently comments on the subject, said:

At ultimate Devoxx I spoke to several spec leads and people from Oracle, and they told me (off the record) that the direct licensing income lonely is enough to rush Java EE, and that excludes the tag on sales for related products.

And my first thought was…

The direct licensing income of a single Exadata installation is probably enough to rush Java EE as well, so perhaps this is an order of magnitude thing (i.e. a “what’s this boring, impertinent stuff over there stop wasting my time thing”)

As you can see, as a community, they can only speculate about what’s going on perquisite now. I believe that the traffic is not provocative enough for Oracle. Plus, neither is the community because it isn’t Oracle’s. It’s Red Hat’s, Pivotal’s, IBM’s, and everyone else’s community. Oracle inherited a rather difficult legacy from Sun. Jonathan Schwartz (the former Sun CEO) testified in court in the Oracle vs. Google case that Java was “free”. Quoting from the Ars Technica series:

The strategy was, they harmonize on these open APIs, then they compete on implementations.

This is what an open standard does, and it was certainly Sun’s aim to “sell” Java EE as an (almost) open standard. But perhaps, after bar not any these years. After doing some proper math, it just showed that this particular (almost) open standard provides benefits to competitors much more than to Oracle. Again, as we’re lacking official PR from Oracle, they can only guess. The fact is, they as a community cannot bring forward Java EE without Oracle. Oracle CEO Safra Catz made this very pellucid in the Oracle vs. Google lawsuit:

[…] And that Android was an unauthorized fork of Java.

This means that any unauthorized fork of Java EE will have the same destiny as Android. Besides, I sincerely doubt that they can convince Oracle to give us more free lunch, so the future of Java EE is, without an actual statement from Oracle’s side, on hold.

Mike Croft —Java Middleware consultant at Payara

We asked Payara’s Mike Croft to observation on the current state of Java EE, as well as on the surge of Java EE Guardians and MicroProfile.

JAXenter: Considering the current state of Java EE, effect you consider they need an initiative to protect its legacy?

Mike Croft: Work on Java EE has slowed, but it hasn’t stopped. The JCP involves more than just Oracle, though they are the biggest players at the moment. The Java EE Guardians’ focus is on getting some action from Oracle; their belief is that this is crucial to the success of Java EE. I harmonize that movement from Oracle is requisite for the future of Java EE, whether that is Oracle working on the JSRs they lead or in relinquishing them to the community. It is requisite to recollect that Java EE isn’t only Oracle, however, and there are a huge number of people and corporations of varying size which acquire a vested interest in its future. The Guardians group is just one application of many and bar not any efforts are needed in this, just as in any community-led project.

Java EE isn’t only Oracle, however, and there are a huge number of people and corporations of varying size which acquire a vested interest in its future.

JAXenter: How could Java EE live brought forward?

Mike Croft: Java EE already has a way to hasten forward in the version 8 specifications. My personal view is that Oracle can still stand to grow their traffic by investing in Java EE. They acquire not heard any official, public response from Oracle as to their plans, so they can’t live sure that the need of activity is permanent or only temporary as they attach more resource into the “other projects” that has been famous on mailing lists. We, as a community, can’t stand still and wait for confirmation, though.

It’s this need of knowledge which has driven Red Hat, Payara, Tomitribe, IBM and the LJC, who each acquire significant interests in Java EE, to publish microprofile.io as a way to bring about open collaboration. This is not an application designed to exclude Oracle, but to leverage the incredible power of the wider Java community to address the needs of modern Java EE users. The direct is to iterate quickly and to collaborate openly on a standard. Standards are incredibly requisite in technology to avoid fragmentation and, from here, the future looks bright.

Java Champion Lukas Eder

JAXenter: Mike Croft said that the JCP involves more than just Oracle. What’s your engage on that?

Lukas Eder: That’s exactly how it ought to be, but for historic reasons it’s not true, and probably never will be. The JCP *is* Oracle, mostly, from a legal and operative perspective.

But Payara and the others who joined forces to create this MicroProfile initiative can create their own committee (as I’ve mentioned in my previous responses on JAXenter), which is truly open, governed by a foundation, not a corporation. There will still live politics, of course, but it would certainly cheer hasten this forward as the legal hurdles would probably live much reduced.

[MicroProfile’s strategy is to] snare up with Spring whose Spring Boot totally dominates the microservices hype.

JAXenter: effect you consider MicroProfile is hoping for a reaction from Oracle?

Lukas Eder: I consider that MicroProfile backers effect not want to add more FUD to the debate. They thus openly invite Oracle to join. In my opinion, however, the strategy is to hasten forward with innovation and not wait for Oracle, but most importantly: to snare up with Spring whose Spring Boot totally dominates the microservices hype. If Oracle does settle to become piece of MicroProfile, fine. But in my opinion, that would live rather surprising.

JAXenter: He too mentioned that “standards are incredibly requisite in technology to avoid fragmentation”; you said there is no Java EE standard. Why are your viewpoints so different?

Lukas Eder: Of course he says that. He couldn’t rush Payara and not acquire this belief :).

And I don’t fully disagree with Mike. What I denote by Java EE is not a “standard” is this: There are good, “obvious” standards and less good, less “obvious” ones.

A estimable standard is a standard that removes fragmentation where fragmentation creates friction, overhead, bureaucracy in the market without adding any value. estimable examples for estimable standards are:

  • Electric voltages
  • Electric outlets (I still hope there will eventually live a world-wide standard, instead of dozens, but at least the EU mostly uses just one)
  • USB
  • Train track widths
  • DIN A4, A5 paper formats
  • JDBC
  • JMS
  • All of these standards simplify traffic for everyone by destroying the traffic of those who try to sell deviating, proprietary interfaces. For example, DIN A4 means 297mm x 210mm. Vendors of printers, photocopying machines, document processing software, paper, envelopes, binders, briefcases, etc. etc. can bar not any support “the standard” and consumers don’t acquire to purchase a briefcase for JAXenter publications and a different briefcase for other documents.

A depraved standard is a “standard” that hinders innovation by adding complexity in a very opinionated environment.

JDBC is an exceptionally estimable standard in software, as it removes the need for knowing about vendor-specific APIs and network protocols in order to access mostly RDBMS (although it works too with other data stores).

There are some estimable Java EE standards, like JMS, Servlets, JavaMail and others, mostly those that define (again) protocol abstractions, or things that are too boring to live implemented a second time in a different way (JAXB, JavaMail).

A depraved standard is a “standard” that hinders innovation by adding complexity in a very opinionated environment, where differing opinions are estimable for the market, as each belief can vary greatly in how it adds value to a consumer. There are a lot of traffic standards like the ISO 9001 for character management or the ISO 29119 software testing standards, which are mostly certifications that companies like to prove off to impress customers. They don’t really denote anything concrete as it is much too complex to derive from a simple yes/no flag what this really means in the context of a concrete corporation.

Java EE “shines” here with depraved “standards” like EJB, MVC, JPA, JSF, CDI, Bean Validation, Batch, and much more. bar not any of these things effect not belong in a standard because they are:

  • Complex
  • Often a depraved default choice
  • Often not the only choice, specifically not the de-facto election (e.g. bean validation, batch)
  • Very opinionated in terms of architecture and design, which greatly restricts the solution space for consumers
  • Take JSF, for instance. It’s a server-side UI component API specification. How many component APIs did they already have? AWT, Swing, JavaFX, Gwt, Vaadin, Wicket, JSF, and many others, lesser known ones. In this case, JSF is “just another” component API (specification). Of course, it’s one of the most common ones today, but that’s only the case because it profits from the Java EE “brand”.

JPA is a different story. It solves dozens of problems, which is a very depraved thing for a “standard” API. It solves:

  • Mapping (that’s the best part)
  • Querying (in several different, conflicting ways: mapping, utility finder methods, JPQL, criteria API, fetch graphs, endemic queries, query annotations, etc. etc., not any of them are satisfactory, given that SQL is incredibly more powerful)
  • Native SQL (in my opinion, the stored procedure support shows the desperation in this API to reserve up with actual world needs by shoe horning a feature into an API that was not designed for the mere existence of stored procedures)
  • Transactions (Why? There’s already JTA…)
  • Locking
  • Caching
  • It’s a heterogeneous monster that should live split in 10 different APIs. Don’t bag me wrong. It’s fine for an *implementation* like Hibernate to present bar not any these features out of the box. But the specification shouldn’t effect that. It’s simply not a estimable standard.

To respond your question: As I mentioned already in my previous answers, the industry likes having guarantees that certain things work together. It’s estimable to know that JDBC works and that jOOQ or Hibernate work on top of JDBC and that not any of these APIs will demolish in the future. JDBC is a standard. jOOQ and Hibernate aren’t. They’re complex tools that profit from the standard. They drive innovation. They add things, deprecate things, remove things. They should not live standards. Otherwise, their complex innovation will stop.

I’m hoping that the MicroProfile initiative will engage a fresh study at “standardization” in Java and prevent the “standard feature creep” that has happened in J2EE and later on in Java EE from happening. sign Little’s observation on the topic looks precisely like it.

    Java Rock Star Adam Bien

JAXenter: Considering the current state of Java EE, did they need an initiative like MicroProfile? Should Oracle engage piece in this initiative?

Adam Bien: Sure! Oracle is highly welcome.

JAXenter: effect you consider MicroProfile will acquire any impact on Java EE Guardians?

Adam Bien: Java EE Guardians is just another group of passionate Java EE fan girls and fan boys. I’m sure they value it. At least they retweeted everything what was microprofile.io-related.

I will interrogate the Java EE Guardians about their belief next time I bag the chance.

JAXenter: Mike Croft said that the JCP involves more than just Oracle while Lukas Eder opined that the JCP is Oracle. What is your opinion?

Adam Bien: I asked the question myself. I asked Heather VanCura What is the relation between JCP and Oracle? The respond can live organize here.

Oracle has a permanent seat on the JCP Executive Committee (EC), and together with the other EC members, the EC votes on the work of the Expert Groups and evolves the JCP itself. The EC is led by a non-voting Chair from the PMO; the PMO is the group within Oracle that is amenable for administering the JCP and chairing the EC. The EC does not micro-manage the day-to-day workings of Expert Groups – the EC has the occasion to review the work of each Expert Group at well-defined points as their specifications proceed through the JCP program. The primary role of the EC is to ensure that specifications effect not overlap or contest with one another and that the specifications meet the needs of the industry segment for which they are being written.

    Heather VanCura

On the spec-level it is even clearer. Some specs JSR-365, CDI 2.0, Dependency Injection for Java, JSR 330 were / are led by other companies entirely without Oracle.

    More to come.

Will Sun open source Java at JavaOne? | killexams.com actual questions and Pass4sure dumps

The curtain rises at JavaOne today at the Moscone center in San Francisco, and newly appointed Sun Microsystems Inc. CEO Jonathan Schwartz makes his debut before the Java evolution community. Attendees can await a lot of buzz and announcements around the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5 specification just approved by the Java Community Process (JCP), and around irritated topics like Ajax, SOA and open source.

But whether Sun will develop a "blockbuster" announcement—like open sourcing Java—attendees will acquire to wait and see, said Joe Keller, vice president of marketing for SOA and Integration Platforms at Sun. "There will live open source announcements, but [attendees] will acquire to determine if it's 'blockbuster' or not," he said. "There will live a lot to effect with SOA," he added.

"I acquire seen rumblings of will they/won't they open source Java, but they surge up every industry event;" said Shawn Willett, a principal analyst for application infrastructure at Current Analysis Inc. "It would live a positive move."

"It's pellucid something in this [open source] area is coming," said Bill Roth, vice president of the BEA Workshop traffic Unit at BEA Systems Inc. "But I don't consider they'll publish something like open sourcing Java." However, he said, "I consider what we'll hear is a greater opening, and I consider they will note a less combative approach. Jonathan is a very smart guy; and I consider you'll note a modern tone. It will live no less aggressive, but will live more an iron hand in a velvet glove approach."

Added Shaun Connolly, vice president of product management at JBoss Inc., making Java open source "would acquire a positive impact on the Java industry. It just gives more skill for people to innovate.."

With Schwartz now running the company, "it's at least plausible," said Anne Thomas Manes, vice president and research director at Burton Group Inc. She added, "I effect consider they'll develop a major announcement, but the expansive intelligence is they just finalized EE 5."

Raising the curtain with JAVA EE 5

In fact, Sun's Keller called the approval of the Java EE 5 spec the actual "curtain raiser" for this year's JavaOne. Sun said it is the most significant update of the programming model since the launch of J2EE 1.2 in December 1999.

According to Keller, the improvements to Java EE 5 "radically simplify the programming model, especially for Web services. There is support for the latest technology for structure out Web applications and structure out SOA." The platform too takes advantage of Web 2.0 technology, he said. And Keller cited the significance of the JCP's work with the open source community, particularly Project GlassFish.

New Java EE 5 features comprehend Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) 3.0, supporting unpretentious faded Java Objects, which can easily live converted to Web services with annotations or made persistent using the modern Java Persistence API. The Java Persistence API was jointly developed by Sun and Oracle and benefits from work done in Hibernate (an open source object/relational mapping project), TopLink (Oracle's Java object-to-relational persistence architecture) and Java Data Objects (developed under the Java Community Process).

Updated Web services comprehend JAX-WS 2.0 and JAXB 2.0, which support the latest W3C and WS-I standards like SOAP 1.2, WSDL 1.1; protocol and transport independence; and the repose style of Web services. The 1.2 version of Java Server Faces (JSF) facilitates structure Web 2.0 applications with Ajax. Java EE5 too incorporates extensive support for annotations, making it easier to deal with persistence, Web services, transactions and security, according to Sun.

"There are three things I'd point to as the poster child work of Java EE 5," said JBoss' Connolly. The first two are "EJB 3.0 and the incorporation of a simplified Java persistence API. You had Bill Burke their [JBoss] chief architect and Gavin King, founder of Hibernate, as coauthors of the EJB 3.0 spec." And in the Web services area, Connolly cited the Annotation capabilities, making it much easier to expose a Web service.

Making Java easier to spend is key for developers, Connolly said—something Microsoft has done well. "Microsoft does decent trust and feeding of its developers. It's requisite for the Java platform to develop it easy, frankly. Kudos to Microsoft for helping drive some [of the simplicity improvements] by putting a flag in the ground, but the Java EE 5 platform really levels the playing field in terms of simplicity."

Java EE 5 too addresses some of the pressing needs of the enterprise, according to Willett. "The technologies in [Java EE 5] are limited more urgent for the enterprise, mainly Web services, JAXB support, Java to Web services support," he said. "For that judgement will live more of an uptake for Java EE 5 than for J2EE 1.4," the predecessor to the Java EE 5 platform. Willett too said that making the technology available early to the Java evolution community will cheer with adoption of this platform. "People are more ready for it because more people acquire seen it."

"As they hasten more to open source, you're seeing us develop their next versions in unpretentious sight," said Sun's Keller. "GlassFish has now been up and running for a year. At JavaOne you will note the results of that project."

Keller too said to await to hear more about Ajax from Sun at JavaOne, based on the work done on JSF. "The component model in JSF was created before Ajax. [In Java EE 5], they taught JSF to speak Ajax."

In addition, Sun will live laying out more of its SOA strategy as it relates to the SeeBeyond acquisition, Keller said. As an adjunct to JavaOne, Sun is hosting Horizons 2006, Sun's SOA & Composite Application Summit (the summit is a continuation of the annual SeeBeyond event). The summit will cover the newest developments with the Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (CAPS), formerly known as the SeeBeyond ICAN suite, the Sun Application Platform Suite, Portal and Identity Management. CAPS "is the starting point," Keller said. "Expect at JavaOne to hear the next step of the story."

Expected announcements From the Java community

JavaOne exhibitors will live introducing modern products as well. Jason Bloomberg, senior analyst at ZapThink LLC, expects to hear a "Web 2.0 meets SOA story. "There's a panel that will talk about Web 2.0 and SOA and mashups. A mashup is essentially a SOBA with a governance framework." In addition, he said, "there is definitely a tie-in between Ajax and loaded internet applications and SOA. Better tools for consuming services is a key piece of the SOA story, especially as the number of available services starts to rise."

Bloomberg cited work in the loaded client area being done by Nexaweb Technologies Inc., and ICESoft Technologies Inc.

Chris Erickson, CEO of ICESoft, said, "We consider Ajax is the trend this year for JavaOne." At JavaOne ICESoft will live announcing ICEfaces Enterprise Edition, an Ajax framework, Erickson said. In April, the company released ICEfaces Community Edition. The Enterprise Edition "adds high-performance, scalability and clustering capabilities—industrial-strength features," Erickson said.

"The Enterprise Edition is their 'coming out' party," Bloomberg said. "Their Ajax technology is based on Java Server Faces, which is an provocative twist on this."

Unlike other Ajax frameworks, ICEfaces enables loaded Web application features to live developed in absolute Java, and in a absolute thin-client model. There are no applets or proprietary browser plug-ins required, and ICEfaces applications are rendered as JSF applications.

For its part, BEA "may or may not acquire something to say" about Ajax at JavaOne, Roth said. "BEA feels Ajax is requisite and a technology their customers are asking for; however, Ajax is a maturing technology. You are going to note over the next 18 months a standardization that will work through the Ajax tools project at Eclipse."

What attendees will hear from BEA is more about the company's "blended" strategy, which mixes open source with commercial technology, "and how blended too means execution environment. Not everyone has WebLogic server," Roth said. Attendees will too hear more about Open JPA, an open source EJB 3.0 Persistence Engine. Also, Roth said, "The notion of dynamic languages is a irritated topic. Wouldn't it live provocative if BEA showed some technology around some other language than Java, and the interplay between how a dynamic language and Java worked, and wouldn't it live provocative to prove that chilly stuff running on [BEA's] application server? Wouldn't that live interesting?"
